G-Force Memory cards

A memory card can be used for saving more presets or as a backup if you fear loosing presets during software upgrades or SysEx file transfers. You can also use a personal computer as a backup by dumping the whole User bank through MIDI. Another reason to get a card is to be able to organize presets more efficiently. For example you can use different card banks for different bands you play in, different recording projects, stereo/mono setup presets and killdry presets.

Card types

The cards to use are so-called PC cards, also known as PCMCIA type 1 SRAM cards. The more common PCMCIA type 2 or 3 can not be used (they look similar but are thicker). PCMCIA type 1 cards are a bit rare, but can be bought from www.pretec.com and www.timasci.com among others. TC Now sell cards featuring the latest software version that can be used as memory cards after you upgraded the software.

Memory cards are a bit expensive, and compared to using a personal computer for backup (see page on SysEx file transfer) they have limited storage capacity. The advantages with cards are that they are smaller and easier to carry with you, and that they allow you to mix presets from different user banks (a MIDI dump to or from a personal computer always includes the whole User bank).

Storage capacity (Marc@TC gets credits for this list)

You can use cards with 64kb to 2Mb memory, were:

* A couple of users have reported that 1Mb cards will not allow more than 9 banks or 900 presets. Propably that goes for 2 Mb cards as well.

Using the memory card

After you've saved a preset to a card bank check that it is really there by reading from the card bank into the G-Force.

Select card banks

In Recall > Bank, choose either ROM, User or Card. If your card is larger than 64 kB you can select between preset banks within the card (see list above). Next, go to Recall > Preset in order to choose presets (see also the Recall section in the manual).

Dump from User bank to card

Choose the card bank where you want to dump the User bank. If the desired card bank is empty it looks like if it cannot be chosen (which is indicated by the persistent blinking of the Enter button even after you have pressed it), but if you ignore this and choose Utility > User bank to Card, the User bank will still dump to the empty Card bank you selected.

Copy single presets between two banks inside a card

Select a preset in a card bank. Press the Store button, and choose the new location where you want the preset stored. If you want to store it in another card bank you must scroll back or forth past all 100 presets in the current card bank in order to reach the next or previous one.
