G-Force software bugs

Earlier software versions of the G-Force contained a few software bugs that sometimes produced erratic behaviour at startup or during editing. These have been fixed little by little during the software upgrades, while at the same time a couple of new ones have appeared. I don't know if the G-Force is the only advanced effect processor to suffer from this or if other brands are equally buggy (but propably they are, to judge from the world of computer software).

According to TC Electronic some apparent bugs are not actual bugs, but performance limitations or deliberate programming solutions. These I have removed from the bug list since they are not likely to be fixed in future upgrade versions, instead you can find them described on the effect block pages. The following is to my knowledge what remains in the G-Force at this time (February 2001). If you have the latest software version, please contact me if you suspect it contains bugs not mentioned on this page.

Software bugs in version 2.04

Pitch Shift
The 2 Voice, 2 Octave sub-algorithm doesn't save Pitch Shift values higher than 1200 cents (Hans Dirty discovered this). This bug is also present in version 2.02 (and probably in all 2.xx).

Software bugs in version 2.03

I don't have version 2.03; this is a preliminary list based on communication with TC Electronic and others.

Serious bugs (affecting the operation of the G-Force)

Dual two tap Delay
If you set the Dual Two Tap's Delay time with its Tempo parameter it will allow more than the max delay time for Lines 1 and Line 2 added together (Line 1 + Line 2 together should not exceed 1480ms), so that you can get 1480ms in both the Line 1 and Line 2 taps. When this happens the Line 1 Tempo will sometimes let the Line 1 Level control Line 2's level as well. In this situation the Line 2 Level does not work at all.
When the Dual Two Tap delay's Line 1 Delay times are less than 1480ms, and Line 2's are set to exactly 1480ms (or higher imaginary values, like 1481ms), Line 1's delay time values will control Line 2's delay time as well.
The Tuner mute
When the G-Force Input level range is changed (making the input relay switch), even a muted Tuner lets through full sound level for as long as the display shows the message "Input level range changed". This can happen if you turn the Input knob while tuning.
If you hit the Tap Tempo button while the Tuner is in use, even a muted Tuner lets through full sound level for as long as the Tap Tempo is performing its tempo analysis.
Compressor and Modifier Matrix
If you link a modifier (for example an expression pedal) to the Compressor In Level in the Modifier matrix, nothing happens soundwise although the graphics look normal.

Not so serious bugs (mostly affecting the display graphics)

Billboard
In Utility > Billboard choose "Slide Name & number". Next change preset, quickly turn the Parameter wheel and press Save before the Name and number has finished sliding across the Billboard. This will make it get stuck sliding name and number until the next preset change. It doesn't seem to affect the G-Force's operation in any other way (William Allen discovered this).
Modifier Matrix
When you go to the far right side of the Modifier matrix, place the cursor around an effect parameter and press Enter, you should get get a shortcut to the effect's Edit Parameter display. But when you use this shortcut, sometimes the value bar graphics to the right in the effect menu don't show up until you "remind" the effect by changing a value, then they'll appear. The parameters and values are always visible, only the bar graphics disappear (Greg Scott discovered this).

Reverb
There is no sound from certain effect blocks when Mix is 100% and they are routed after Reverb (with Reverb Mix 100%). This has happened very often with the Pitch shift, Drive and Phaser effects, but there might be other problematic combinations. When a Chorus/Flanger block with Mix 100% is routed in between everything works fine.
When changing between Reverb sub-algorithms the reverb tail disappears completely (but the "initial reflections" are still there). When changing parameter values like "Room type" or those related to levels the reverb tail appears again. Changing preset or rebooting will also restore it. Sjaak Boswijk reported a more serious version of this bug: in his case it reappeared when a preset was saved and he returned to it from another preset.

Pitch Shift
In the Pitch Shift block, if you set the Pitch value in the 2 Voice 2 Octave algorithm to a value above 1200 cents and then switch to the Fixed 1 or 2 Voice sub-algorithms, parts of the display graphics from the 2 Voice 2 Octave sub-algorithm follows into the new sub-algorithm and obscures the Pitch staple there. It immideately disappears when you dial the pitch parameter, and does not affect the sound.

Software bugs in older versions

Bugs in software versions prior to 2.02 are not listed since I haven't kept track of them properly.
