Control and bypass G-Force Wah effects with one pedal

A Wah effect works like a static filter when the pedal is not moved. If you don't want that effect you must bypass it completely when not in use, but that requires that you move your foot between the Wah pedal and the Wah bypass switch, which might be tricky (I recall seeing a bypass switch on the Lexicon MPX-R1 foot controller beneath its expression pedal, which could perhaps be used to bypass an effect in the pedal's heels position). This page describes a couple of tricks that let you both control and bypass the Wah with the same pedal.

Linking the Expression pedal to both Frequency and Mix

The following lets you get rid of the Wah effect by parking the pedal in the heel position:

  1. Link the expression pedal to both the Wah's Frequency and Mix parameters.
  2. Set the Mix's Link response curve to a vertical shape, so that Mix will be 0% in the pedal's heel position but 100% in all other positions.

There are two disadvantages with this:

Using the External modifier Reset

The following makes the Wah inactive when the preset is first loaded, but activates it as soon as you move the pedal:

  1. Set Utility > External modifier to Reset (software version 1.12 and later).
  2. Set the Mix parameter in the Wah's effect menu to 0%.
  3. In the Link response curve, set Wah Mix to 100% for all pedal positions.

The Wah Mix will now default to 0% when you load the preset, but as soon as you move the pedal it instantly changes to the Link response curve's 100% Mix setting. A disadvantage is that you can't bypass the Wah this way, only activate it. If you make two identical Wah presets you might switch back and forth between them in order to re-engage the External modifier Reset.
