The G-Force Drive effect

The G-Force Drive is both a mono input and output effect. The Drive parameter (that simulates preamp distortion) isn't too good, but the Out Drive and Smasher parameters might be useful in combination with an external preamp or overdrive pedal. The Out Drive simulates power tube distortion, while the Smasher emphasizes even-order harmonics, similar to a tube power amp at very high output levels.

Limitations

In the G-Force manual the Drive is described as a post distortion effect. As such I would have preferred it in stereo, and it would have been more useful if its output level didn't depend on the amount of Drive (as it is a low Drive setting will only produce a very weak output signal).

Like any distortion effect this one produces noise, but since the G-Force's Gate is located in the Input section it's of little use. However you can still make your own noise gate anywhere among the G-Force effects.

Drive tips

By routing the Drive block after the Reverb you can get interesting "foghorn"-sounding effects (this may not always work in some software versions due to software bugs).

By routing the Drive after a Flanger (instead of before) you can get a nice "singing" distortion effect. You can also try it after the Pitch Shift or Filter blocks.

By linking an LFO to the Drive parameter a "distortion tremolo" may result.

The Brightness and Body parameters can be used as filters if the Drive parameter is set low.
